Valerie worked as a hair and makeup artist in the film and TV industry for 27 years. After that, she took some time away from the industry. After a few years away, she was eager to jump back into beauty and enrolled in Beauty Industry Essentials for a refresher. Yellowbrick spoke with Valerie about her student success and return to the beauty industry.
Beauty Industry Essentials opened my eyes to different career paths that I have never considered.
ON CHOOSING BEAUTY INDUSTRY ESSENTIALS —
I’d been working in the beauty industry for about 27 years, and I took some time off to care for my family. I wanted to learn about the changes that have taken place in the industry since I started doing makeup many years ago. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on anything!
I found Beauty Industry Essentials while scrolling through Facebook. I came across a Yellowbrick and Fashion Institute of Technology ad, and it looked very interesting to me. Taking the beauty course was very inspiring.
ON BEING A YELLOWBRICK STUDENT —
I really enjoyed the writing and assignments, especially the Product Analysis and Creating A Competitive Analysis assignments.
ON REAL-LIFE APPLICATION —
I’ve been working in the industry for a very long time. Beauty Industry Essentials opened my eyes to different career paths that I have never considered. I also recognized that I need help with my social media.
ON THE PAST & WHAT’S NEXT —
I had to put my makeover show on hiatus until Covid-19 restrictions were lifted. I am very excited to start touching faces again — hopefully, sooner rather than later. I am very anxious to get started again.
