Jeff Rabhan’s Time at Rolling Stone and SPIN

Rabhan studied journalism at New York University and began his career as a music journalist with Rolling Stone. “I’ve worked in virtually all areas of the music industry over the last 20 plus years,” says Jeff, who is well-versed in music education. “I was a music journalist for Rolling Stone and Spin. I’ve worked for record companies like Atlantic and Elektra.

Shifting to A&R

While writing for SPIN magazine. Rabhan was offered a position at Atlantic Records as Senior Director of A&R and Soundtracks. He was later named Executive in Charge of Soundtracks at Elektra Records. He oversaw and organized the soundtrack releases of Beautiful Girls and Four Rooms. Later, Rabhan left Elektra Records and began working as an independent music supervisor and A&R consultant. During his independent work, he discovered the brother boy band, Hanson, and oversaw the production of the Scream soundtrack.

Artist Management

Rabhan jumped back into the corporate world and became a partner at the entertainment company, The Firm, Inc. There, he worked closely with several prominent artists. “I was an artist manager for over 15 years, working with artists like DMX, Lil’ Kim, Kelly Clarkson, Michelle Branch, and Kelly Rowland.”

Moving to NYU and Becoming an Author

Rabhan left The Firm in 2006 and launched his own management company, Three Ring Projects. In 2010, Rabhan took a position as the Chair of the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at Tisch School of the Arts, NYU. He also continued to work in an advisory role with record companies and artists. His book, Cool Jobs in the Music Business, which explores and details music industry career paths was released in 2013.
