What does a Licensing Representative do?

Licensing Representatives pitch recommendations and manage incoming requests for the rights to use music. Possible placements include visual media, at businesses and locations, and live performances. They also deal with four licensing types: the mechanical license, the performance license, the synchronization license, the master license. Depending on the license type, they work for copyright administrators, performance rights organizations (PROs), music publishers, music libraries, and record labels.

In general, the ranges in salary widely depends on factors including skill and seniority level. Entry-level licensing representatives start around $22,000 annually. Artists receive proper royalties promptly because representatives work on their behalf. They also help protect the creative process by ensuring artists receive compensation for their work.
